Why Can’t I Manifest What I Want

One of the most counter-productive expressions I have ever heard in my life is, “I don’t want to get my hopes up.” What an absurd thing to say, it makes me squirm every time I hear it. Sure, lets set ourselves up for disappointment before we even get started. How can we ever hope to experience success with such a self defeating attitude. We are not going to be able to manifest anything into our lives if we have even tiniest inkling of self sabotage in our minds. We are experts at negative thinking and we allow it to stifle our progress throughout every day of our lives. We assume that the traffic will be congested, that we will get a cold in the winter, that the car will break down; the list is endless. Never think that a task will be difficult or that a dream is unreachable. Never ask how something will come to pass, just say yes and push all doubts from your mind the instant you notice them.
These silly words “I don’t want to get my hopes up,” are spoken as a method to avoid disappointment. If we give ourselves permission to fail, if we verbalize our failure before we attempt something, we cannot be wrong and, therefore, presumably we will be less disappointed when we do fail. Our ego is so determined to be right that it will actually ensure our failure by having our mind concentrate on not achieving that which we are not getting our hopes up for. When we really try hard to achieve something and we miss the mark it can feel devastating. But is that fear of dissapointment worth abandoning our goals? We ensure that we will never get to where we are going if we never get started or give up half way simply because we fear the possibility of failure. As Thomas Edison famously said, “If I find 10,000 way something won’t work, I haven’t failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.” This statement illustrates that we must view our supposed failures as part of the progression toward our goal. We cannot quit after the first discouraging setback, we must persevere. And we can’t assume that we will get everything we want on the first try; the world does not work that way, we have to be in it for the long haul. Which brings to mind another quote from Edison, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”
People who are new to manifesting their intention tend to be very impatient. They will do everything right; they will meditate, concentrate, focus their intention and try to manifest that which they would like, yet nothing will happen. The truth is, we often have to wait; and when we wait for a long time we get discouraged, forget about our goals and move on. In reality, when we don’t see our goals manifesting quickly, we are not prepared to receive them. That is not a “cop-out” answer, we need to be patient, we need to wait. If we are given things too quickly we generally lose them too quickly. Have you ever noticed the things you do impulsively you very often regret? Like leasing that expensive SUV that you resent because it costs you all of your hard earned money in payments and fuel; or that knee jerk move you made to a new job which was no better or possibly worse than the job you left. We need to be patient and we need to wait in the correct manner. We need to wait calmly and with certainty and expectancy.
When we plant a vegetable garden in the spring we till the soil carefully, plant the seeds, pull the weeds meticulously, and water the seedlings. Then we wait for the magic to happen. We must provide continued maintenance, not much, but we have to make an effort to tend our crop. It is futile to attempt to hurry along your pea plants to produce peas. You would not be so foolish as to go to your garden and tug on the seedlings in an attempt to get them to grow and produce faster because you are hungry! All you can do is wait expectantly and with the absolute certainty, barring any natural disasters, that you will definitely be dining on sweet garden peas soon. This is how we must manifest.
The universe functions within its own time phase which is much different from ours. We observe time in a linear fashion and we will always be stuck doing so, therefore, we must learn to wait. At times the stars will seem to align and things will happen like magic, and at other times getting any results may be like pulling teeth from an angry and uncooperative pig! But we must persevere until we get the results we are intending.
We must hold our dreams loosely without letting them go. We must allow the circumstances within our world to align with our thoughts of abundance and then wait with expectant certainty. To see things really start to happen we must rise above hoping and dreaming, we must even rise above believing; we must know. Knowing is certainty, and certainty is absolute; there is no doubt.

What a great read, this is so true!! I fortunately learned the lesson of not saying things like “I don’t want to get my hopes up” and I feel like I can see things much more clearly now. Never give up, never say “I can’t”.
Dreams are much closer than we realize.
