Do You Believe In Angels ?

“We are like , who stand in need of masters to enlighten us and direct us; God has provided for this, by appointing his angels to be our teachers and guides.” Thomas Aquinas

anglecarivaggioEvery day at noon we sit around the table in the lunch room to enjoy light conversation and good company, a welcome break from our daily grind. Once we’re finished eating our resident gypsy/oracle/lunch hour psychic opens her box of Angel Cards and gives us each our own daily reading.

We all wait our turn to hear what the angels will be telling us that day, some more-so than others. A card is drawn that displays a word; serenity, power, etc. Along with that word is an explanation of how the angels will be applying the qualities of that word to our lives for the next little while.  More often than not, the words and explanations are quite serendipitous and link up strangely to events that are actually occurring in our lives. The skeptics in the crowd claim that the believers are simply forcing the words to ‘fit’ into their lives, yet it seems they too can’t resist the urge to draw their card to see what good things may be in store for them.  Even if the message of the angle card has only served as a reminder for us to try harder, to be more kind, or to expect good things, the angels have served us well.

Do we all in angels? I suppose some do and some don’t , but it doesn’t really matter. Like some people say of God, “just because you don’t in him, doesn’t mean that he doesn’t exist.” Actually, the proof is overwhelming in favour of the existence of a higher power. When the question of belief is raised, the question should not be ‘do you ’, rather it should be ‘do you know’. The word seems to imply some doubt, whereas the word know is definitive and absolute. Do you know that there is God?

The vast majority of people on this planet in the presence of a loving guiding ethereal force to guide them through their lives. Do we need physical proof of such an entity? Of course not, that is what we call faith. But the paradox here is we do have abundant proof of faith all around us every minute of every day. The simple fact that we exist is all the proof one could ask for. You’re here: you live and breath. What gave you life? What gave life to the world? Science can explain the functions of life but cannot begin to explain the reason for it. As the Christian Bible claims, we did arise from the clay, God formed us from the substance of this earth, we are literally part of the earth. The matter we are composed of right now, at some point was molten minerals and water. Nothing new comes to this planet, our bodies are composed of the physical matter of all the living and non living substance that has come before us, and we will eventually contribute our bodies back into the earth. Whether you  creation occurred as stated in Genesis, or in the scientific method of evolution, the stories are essentially the same. The only thing that separates the two creation myths is time.  God has always been and always will be, time does not exist for God. Both explanations are true, for both claim that we came from the stuff of this earth.

This brings me back to the existence of angels. Rather than pose the skeptical question, “why would angels exist?” Why don’t we ask, “why would they not exist?” Is it not a comforting notion that there is an ethereal power watching over you and guiding you safely through your life? Of course it is. So why not embrace that notion and allow it to be? French religious philosopher Blaise Pascal said,”Our achievements of today are but the sum total of our thoughts of yesterday.” If we are the sum of our thoughts should we not choose great thoughts? Christ said “as you think, so shall you be.” Lets think good thoughts. And let’s choose those thoughts based on our pleasant beliefs.

Skeptics will retort that we are doing ourselves a disservice by placing our faith in something that does not exist. Why is that? How can it be a disservice to have hope. Do the skeptics hope? Of course they do. And what is hope if  not a call for , a prayer to any and all who will listen to our plea, who will us through our pain? God will appear when called upon and provide us with that which we need to continue on, to take another step, to place one foot in front of the other and continue. The assistance will always be simple but memorable and filled with power; it may appear to us in the smile of a child when we are sad, or in a hand to hold when we are weak.

Scientifically, skepticism can be explained away just as quickly as it debunks. The placebo effect is a phenomenon where miracles happen simply through the act of believing in an outcome. A sugar pill can heal just about anything if the patient has the expectation that it will. If we take this belief one step further into a knowing, which could also be called faith, imagine the miracles that could happen then. Nothing physical occurs to our body when we injest a placebo pill, so why do we heal? Some would say that our body is healing itself. I would propose that this phenomenon is simply God at , an answer to a call for , a call with absolute faith.

When angels are called upon by those who in them or know of their existence, angels will appear for them, so you may be missing out! Stretch your mind. Don’t limit your beliefs only to that which you can sense with your limited senses, you are noticing only a minuscule amount of the beauty that surrounds you if you allow your rational mind to base its beliefs on the tiny bit of proof you are able to notice. The human senses are very dull. Birds fish and insects can sense the magnetic field of the earth. Whales dolphins and bats can form an image in their brain with sound. Certain reptiles can see heat and taste the presence of a creature through the air. Anthropological psychologists theorize that we have lost many of our ancient sensory capabilities as we progressed through the ages, as our lives became less difficult, and as we became less reliant on our senses for survival. Could we have lost the ability to notice other realms of existence, to notice the angels?

Again, just because we do not notice or are incapable of understanding something, does not mean that it doesn’t exist? There is so much in creation that we cannot observe, but that certainly exists; so to that the angels are all around us and willing to  us can only be a good thing!

I wonder what the angels will tell me tomorrow?

Hey Dennis! As the resident gypsy/oracle/lunch hour psychic you are talking about, I found your article very enlightening and positive. I find that even if there is skepticism, there is always hope. Hope that the angels do exist and that they will, indeed, be there for us to entrust with our concerns. I have had many private conversations with fellow employees, and they have confided that they now are actually asking for the help of the angels. And if we open ourselves up to asking for help, and having faith that it will indeed help, then it proves that our lunch hour readings are certainly a positive part of our day. As you know, we have had many meaningful conversations after the readings; I feel this binds us together with a spiritual connection that would not normally exist in a workplace environment. My angels are real and I know they are working for and with me each and every day. Thanks for taking the time to address this issue! Have a day filled with Divine Love and Enchantment! Cath
